Tesla has unveiled its long-awaited next-generation Roadster, showcasing an all-electric sports car incorporating aerospace-inspired propulsion technology developed in collaboration with SpaceX. The vehicle was demonstrated October 15 at a SpaceX testing facility in McGregor, Texas.
The unveiling featured a series of demonstrations highlighting the Roadster’s performance capabilities, including an acceleration run from 0 to 60 mph in less than one second and aerial maneuvers using high-pressure gas thrusters.
The Roadster combines electric vehicle performance with an unconventional propulsion system designed to enable short airborne movements and additional vehicle control capabilities. During the presentation, Tesla demonstrated the vehicle navigating an inverted ramp before returning to the ground.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk positioned the Roadster as a vehicle focused on the experience of manual driving, even as the company continues expanding its autonomous driving technologies.
The second-generation Roadster was originally announced in 2017, with production subsequently delayed several times. Tesla now targets 2028 for production, although final pricing and customer delivery dates have not been confirmed.
The unveiling highlights the expanding intersection of automotive engineering, electrification, advanced vehicle control systems and aerospace technology.
